Far East Maritime Foundation Inc. ensures that our training programs conducted via distance learning and e-learning are first approved and accredited by the Maritime Industry Authority of the Philippines. We also ensure that Instructors and Assessors who are responsible for the conduct of our training programs conducted via distance learning and e-learning are appropriately qualified in accordance with the qualifications and standards prescribed by the Maritime Industry Authority of the Philippines.

Training programs may either be delivered:

  • Fully online - offered in a completely online environment, no in person or on campus meetings. Far East Maritime Foundation Inc. uses a combination of synchronous and asynchronous activities for our fully online training programs. The topics and activities which would be delivered asynchronously and synchronously will be seen in the Course Timetable and Course Outline of each individual training program.

  • Fully face-to-face - Trainees meet with the Instructor at regularly scheduled times, primarily in a classroom.

  • Blended (part online and part face-to-face) - the educational practice of combining digital learning tools with traditional classroom face to face teaching. Far East Maritime Foundation Inc. uses a combination of synchronous and asynchronous activities for the online part of our blended training programs. The topics and activities which would be delivered asynchronously, synchronously, and face-to-face will be seen in the Course Timetable and Course Outline of each individual training program.

Far East Maritime Foundation Inc. uses Moodle Learning Management System (LMS) designed to provide educators, administrators and learners with a single robust, secure and integrated system to create personalized learning environments. It has WCAG 2.1 Level AA accreditation.

Moodle is developed and maintained by Moodle Pty Ltd, familiarly known as Moodle HQ. The open-source software, originally created over 20 years ago by Founder Martin Dougiamas is supported financially by a network of over 104 Moodle Partnerships worldwide and an increasing number of valued Certified Integrations. Moodle's commitment to open-source learning and further advance the mission to Empower educators to improve our world.

Moodle LMS is compatible with:

  • Windows (Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera)

  • MacOS (Safari)

  • Android (Moodle app)

Company Policy for the use of Moodle LMS in Delivering Training Programs via Distance Learning and E-Learning

Platform Usage

  • All training programs offered by Far East Maritime Foundation Inc. which will be delivered via distance learning and e-learning must be conducted using Moodle LMS. All Instructors, Assessors, Technical Support Staff, as well as Trainees are required to get familiarized with the platform's functionalities.

  • Only Instructors, Assessors, and Trainees who are invited to the Moodle LMS by the Technical Support Staff who created the class have the right to participate. Instructors, Assessors, and Trainees are prohibited from inviting other  individuals to the class.

Course Materials

  • Instructors and technical Support Staff are responsible for uploading all necessary training program materials, including orientation, lectures (text or videos), assignments, assessments, and supplementary resources to Google Classroom.

  • Trainees are expected to regularly check the Announcement sections of the Moodle LMS for any announcements, posts, course materials, and assignments.

Communication

  • Communication between Instructors and Trainees should be conducted primarily through the private messaging function in Moodle LMS and the class' assigned Google Meet.

  • Should Trainees encounter issues with the above mentioned prescribed mode of communication, contact details of Far East Maritime Foundation Inc.'s Training Department and Registration Department are posted in the Orientation materials in the Moodle drop down section of the Moodle LMS.

  • All communication should be professional and respectful. Inappropriate language (selling, harassing, discriminating) will not be tolerated and will be grounds for eviction from the class.

Assessment

  • Formative assessments will be assigned thru the Moodle LMS every after every module or topic.

  • Summative assessment that will serve as your final test will be given face-to-face.

  • Only MARINA approved test questions and exercises will be used for assessments
